INTELEC® 2014 was a huge success!

The 36th annual conference was held from September 28 ‐ October 2 at the Vancouver Convention Center in Vancouver. INTELEC©, the International Telecommunications Energy Conference, is the annual world‐class technical forum which presents the latest developments in communications energy systems and related power‐processing devices and circuits.
This event was attended by over 450 from 46 countries delegates who came to hear the keynote talks, oral, and poster technical presentations, workshops, and commercial presentations and over 150 exhibitors. The Tutorials that provided relevant technical training were attended by over 75 people.
This year's theme was ‘Resilient Communications Energy for our Connected World’ and the program reflected this theme as well as ongoing themes of INTELEC such as energy efficiency, power conversion technologies, power system architectures, energy storage technologies, renewable energy sources, safety considerations, . The daily keynote addresses from industry leaders such Alex Tang, a leading consultant on earthquake engineering of telecommunications and electric power lifelines, as well as Victor Goncalves, P.Eng, FEC (Chief Technology Officer Alpha Technologies LTD), Dr. Ewart Blackmore (Senior Research Scientist, TRIUMF), and Power Electronics legend Bruce Carsten (President, Bruce Carsten Associates, were an exhilarating start to the days program. Beyond the plenary talks, within the 125 technical oral and poster presentations, there were many interesting papers on topologies and realization of super‐high‐efficiency power factor correctors, power converters and switch‐mode telecom rectifiers with 98% peak efficiency. For example, a presentation by Ionel (Dan) Jitaru showed that a 99% efficient converter can be realized with certain resonant transition topologies and a presentation by Yuling Huang of Alpha Technologies described a digitally controlled LLC converter with High Power and efficiency. The two workshops which were on ‘400VDC power systems in central office and data centres and ‘Line powering of Telecommunications Equipment on Outside Plant Twisted Copper Pair Loops’ each had a comprehensive panel of industry experts.
The exhibition highlighted power and energy products, equipment and services from 45 local and international companies. A social program included local scenic tours and technical tours to TRIUMF and UBC’s ‘Living Lab Initiative’ Energy Storage System .
The 2014 conference in Vancouver was a great success and well attended by the industry who’s who.
Vancouver provided attendees with beautiful weather, great hospitality and views of the beautiful natural landscape of the mountains, harbour and city.
We look forward to seeing everyone at INTELEC 2015 in Osaka Japan October 18 – 25th 2015. Full details of this program can be found at www.intelec2015.org.
